The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ on Wednesday remanded into prison custody a 39-year-old man for allegedly possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Prince Kwame Ofori Agyeman pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge of possessing narcotics. The court presided over by Mrs. Laurinda Owusu, however, entered a plea of not guilty for him, when he denied ownership of the substance.He was remanded to re-appear on October 27.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, told the court that on October 4, the complainant, an intelligence officer of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), was on his normal routine at the Tema Fishing Harbour, when he spotted Agyeman who had posed as a personnel of GPHA extorting money from people.
Chief Inspector Otchere said, with the help of a Naval Officer, the complainant arrested the accused person. A search on him revealed GH¢ 5.00 and a wrapped dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Agyeman was handed over to the Harbour Police who forwarded the substance to the Police Crime Laboratory to be tested.
