The Municipal Chief Executive for Offinso in the Ashanti Region has denied media reports that he has vacated his post.
Victor Amponsah who is currently on a one week study-tour in the United States of America says he has no criminal record to warrant such action.
He however admits there was miscommunication between him and the Regional Coordinating Council regarding his travel, an issue he intends to settle on his return.
Wednesday’s edition of the Daily Guide Newspaper reported that Mr. Amponsah has vacated his post by relocating to the United States.
The paper also said the MCE showed gross disrespect to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku-Manu by defying an earlier warning not to travel abroad.
According to the paper, the situation has so infuriated the Regional Minister that he had to appoint the Municipal Coordinating Director to act.
But Mr. Amponsah has dismissed the reports.
Speaking to Nhyira FM from the US, the MCE said he will be back in Ghana on Monday to resume work.
“It is not true that I have run out of the country to seek greener pastures my brother, I still have my wife, kids and family in Ghana…The education tour is just from Friday to Monday so I will resume work on Monday,” an apparently shocked Mr. Amponsah told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah over the phone.
Mr. Amponsah was selected among ten Executive MBA students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to embark on the one week tour.
He says the trip affords him the opportunity to woo investors into the Offinso area.
"The trip is for the benefit of Offinsoman and Ghana in general," he said.
According to him, he took advantage of the trip to meet members and executives of the Offinsoman Union in the United States.
The group has promised to register about 2,000 people in the area, donate some computers to facilitate ICT studies and also help mechanize boreholes for the Onchocerciasis-stricken Asuboi community.
