Three more people have been arrested in Bawku in connection with last Sunday’s sporadic shooting in the area bringing the number of arrests to four.
The lead suspect Ibrahim Mohammed was arrested with an AK47, G3 rifles and other ammunition in his room shortly after the incident, while three others were arrested later.
Upper East Regional Police Commander ACP Bright Oduro said investigations are underway to apprehend other persons in possession of weapons in the town.
He said even though the shooting incident may not be directly related to the latest arrest, the incident pricked the police into action.
ACP Oduro said the three were arrested because they were believed to have played various roles in fueling the conflict there.
Meanwhile, the Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee which is helping to foster peace in the area said the shooting is in no way connected to the protracted ethnic conflict in the area.
