Chief calls for re-introduction of puberty rites

The chief of Ajumako Solomon, Nana Kweku Dawson, has called for the re-introduction of customs such as puberty rites to help check teenage pregnancy and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Nana Dawson made the call at a beauty pageant organized by the chief and people of Ekumfi Gyinamkama in the Mfantseman East District as part of activities marking the Akwambo festival. He appealed to parents and teachers and other stakeholders in education to compliment government efforts by providing some of the materials and structures for education. Nana Dawson described quality education as the bedrock for development and urged philanthropists to assist children in deprived communities to attain greater height in future. Miss Dina Amo, a 19-year-old photographer, was adjudged the winner. Source: GNA
