Today marks the deadline for members of the public wishing to submit proposals on changes they would want to see made to the 1992 constitution.
The Constitution Review Commission is hoping to now begin analyzing the about 57 thousand submissions it has received over the last 6 months.
Media and Communications Officer Papa Kow Acquaye told Joy News regional fora to enable citizens participate in the review process have also ended.
He said the real work of quantitative and qualitative analysis of the submissions received will now start.
“For example, of the 57,000 submissions that we received… if after analyzing them we find that 50,000 people say that they don’t want majority of ministers to come from parliament as in Article 78 (1), then clearly our draft bill in our report must show that majority of the people that contributed to the process or that we consulted say they don’t want majority of minister to come from Parliament,” he stated.
Mr. Acquaye said the commission will now seek the views of President Mills, ex presidents Rawlings and Kufuor, the Chief Justice and others whose functions are directly dictated by the constitution.
A formal date is yet to be announced for the discussions with former presidents Rawlings and Kufuor.
Meanwhile, members of the public who wish to submit proposals after today may put in a special application to the Commission’s Chairman, Professor Albert Fiadjo.
