The Convention People Party has said progress is being made with the merger talks with the People’s National Convention.
The CPP’s National Chairman, Ladi Nylander told Joy News both parties want to be careful and meticulous with whatever arrangements are being discussed and promised that some positive results would be achieved soon.
Mr. Nylander said the parties want to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2008 when a merger was scarpered barely six hours after the agreement was reached.
“After months and months of negotiations, within six hours the whole thing unraveled. The thing was hatched by midnight and by 6am the thing had been unraveled so we don’t want that to happen again.”
Some analysts have argued the two Nkrumaist parties will continue to perform abysmally at elections unless they merge their efforts and resources.
While the parties themselves agree in principle with the suggestion, the unwillingness on the part of the leaders to let go their party symbols and names, it appears, has often stalled talks.
