Government could end the year spending much more than it has planned to spend.
According to the Center for Policy Analysis, this could actually lead to a much larger deficit than last year’s.
CEPA, in its mid-year report on the economy, said government may also end the year missing out on almost all of its targets, especially in the area of revenue mobilization, growth and interest payments.
The Executive Director of CEPA Dr Joe Abbey said since much income, which is the base for taxes, was not generated, achieving government’s revenue target was definitely not attainable.
Dr. Abbey however expects earnings from the country’s traditional exports to be better than projected in the 2010 budget.
