It doesn’t take much. Just the mental will as usual.
Everything we face as individuals in this world hovers around how we rally the strength of our mind to accept those situations or resist those situations. Either of them is true.
Working under a whining boss does not pass as an easy adventure. It is not that easy, but it is easy!
It’s as though I heard you say it’s hard.
I know many people will be quick to point to the hurdles they will have to surmount before meeting the demands of a bad boss.
The reality check is that it is an ugly affair to work under such people.
As a result of lack of confidence in themselves coupled with the insecurity in their inherent talents, such persons are motivated to dash the confidence of subordinates who are smart, confident, no-nonsense takers, brighter and often intelligent than they appear to be.
Their agenda is to try whatever it takes to discredit such individuals in front of others by using words they consider mean such as; “he’s not smart at all”, “I thought he was intelligent” and “He’s not capable.”
At times, they go to the extent of approaching some members of the organisation’s management to run you down.
Their ambition is to make you feel hollow and inadequate because you appear stronger than they are in their entire life.
Sometimes, these bad bosses are Individuals who have grown to nurture whining as part of their leadership style.
The least provocation will send them raining brimstone on employees or their subordinates as though their ego is magnified by doing that. And yes it does. Often they receive satisfaction after their daily screaming.
I don’t care how bad it is at your workplace, however, what I am convinced about is that you don’t need to let someone rob you of your glory. There’s so much deposit of glory in you right now.
The last thing you may want to do right now is to give your life’s key to somebody to re-wire your thinking. Whenever they go negative on you, don’t give up.
Keep at what you are doing. It’s better an end with a horror than an end without a horror, says Adolf Hitler.
In this rather short piece, I will discuss with you how to work under such bosses;
#1: Attitude:
How we go about our day borders around attitude. The argument, therefore, is that attitude is everything. It doesn’t matter what happens to you because stuff happens to a lot of people under this sun.
What matters, predominantly, is what you do with what happens. I’ve nurtured myself to the extent that whatever one does to me, I don’t see it to be personal.
I will not get my world crushed because you disagreed with me, or because you believe in the faintest of your imagination that you are brilliant or intelligent than I am.
If the glass is half-full and you see it as full, depends on where you are standing. I will not fault you for that judgment because it cannot change the positive image I have of myself. This is the attitude that you need to develop.
Buoy yourself up that whatever you boss does to you, you will keep doing what you are doing. However, the caveat is that if your bad work ethic has necessitated the reaction of your boss, kindly change it. It is better to be persecuted for doing the right thing than for doing the bad thing.
This piece is for those of you who are doing the right thing and/or do not know what they have done their bosses, yet continue to be the object of hatred and all manner of attacks. Develop a thick skin and resolve not to let anything shake your foundation.
#2: Stick to your personal philosophy:
If he’s against your personal belief of integrity doesn’t mean you will have to bend your principle to accommodate his nauseating whining.
Nothing sums up the whole life of an individual than his personal philosophy. Or better put it, his personal beliefs. What do you hold close to your chest? Is it integrity, honesty, hard work, friendship, healthy relationship, principled, no-nonsense taker, organised, optimistic, and clean?
Whatever it is, will be enough to anger someone in your circle and that’s one of the reasons your boss will dislike you. And you will not have to bend your principle because your boss expects you to compromise at a point.
It is better to be known as the no-nonsense taker than as the gentleman or lady who caves in under pressure. It is worst than suicide (take it from me).
If you have not grounded your principle, it is about time you did that. At least let someone remembers you for something, for anything.
#3: Focus:
Life’s victory is not found in goals set out in the diaries or journals, but rather in focusing the might of one’s vision and physical strength to the accomplishment of set goals. Focus means no matter how hard you try to dissuade me from the goal, I will keep working at it. Scripture says forgetting about what is behind and pressing on towards the goal.
That’s focus for you there. FOCUS. Condition your mind that anything can happen to you so long as you’re in the flesh. Remember, I said stuff happens.
And stuff will happen to you. It is nothing personal, but the way you will take it will decide if you have taken it personal or not. I have had close friends deny me in front of strangers, yet I have never in my life taken such moments personal.
My vision is grander than what someone decides to say about me at any time. I am bigger because God is bigger.
Why are you working at where you are right now? Is it to survive or to gain the needed experience for an onward march into the future? Or you are there because there’s no job in the country? Whatever is your motivation, don’t lose the focus. Hold it before your mind’s eye and the prize will be yours for the taken.
Conclusion:
However, if you are still not comfortable with where you are, I’ll advise you quit the job. Often man fears what fears him.
What a tragic situation when you fear the thing that fears you. There’s nothing like sufficiency in whatever we do or in the world. The world can never get enough to feed everybody. Therefore, make use of the very little there’s in the world and make your mark.
We continue to cry there are no jobs in Ghana, yet many people pass others by to land a job every day and we’re aware of this truth.
What is the magic? Persistency and consistency hold the explanation – two words that hold so much magic in this world.
What’s wrong? FEAR!
Come out of it right now.
At least it’s not holding you my dear.
You are rather holding onto it.
