President John Mills has admonished residents in the Upper East Region to imbibe the spirit of unity in their day-to-day activities. He said it is only in an atmosphere of peace and unity that the country can progress. The president was speaking at the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Upper East Region in Bolgatanga on Wednesday. He also cautioned residents to be tolerant and be moderate in their utterances. “Let’s be careful at our utterances. The human tongue can do one of two things; either to build or to destroy. Are we going to use our tongue to destroy”? He quizzed. “…The foundation we lay today will be the foundation that will hold the super structure for tomorrow. And those of us who are alive now, will at some stage have to account for our stewardship,” he said. He assured the residents that his government is working tirelessly to provide jobs for the youth in the region. He touted the achievements of his government, saying they met an almost bankrupt economy but has within the past two years managed to turn the country’s economy around. “It is not that we are not doing anything. We came to inherit an almost bankrupt country and we have worked hard. The cedi is stable, you find that inflation has come down; single digit inflation. Interest rate has come down. Even though we are not saying it, if you go round you will see the number of projects that we are doing and many many more projects are going to materialize in the next two months,” he said.
