A deputy Information Minister has accused the first National Vice- Chairman, Ekow Spio Garbrah of inciting the National Democratic Congress youth against President John Mills.
According Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr Garbrah organized a “clandestine meeting” of NDC youth to denigrate the sitting president.
The Vice Chairman at a meeting with the NDC’s Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) on Tuesday said the president must take steps to address the gaping cracks within the party.
He said the president has not even paid courtesy call on the other aspirants he contested before winning the party’s flagbearer position, something the opposition leader, Nana Akufo Addo has done done in his party.
Dr. Garbrah also wondered why with all his experience he has not even been appointed as a chairman of a board in Ghana in order for him to contribute towards the development of the party and the country as a whole.
He was worried that ex-president Rawlings is still “homeless” several months after his residence was gutted by fire in February 2010.
But the Deputy Information Minister in a reaction on Joy News said Dr. Garbrah’s utterances smacks of a person who feels he is the only experienced person who cannot be done without in government.
He contested claims by Dr. Garbrah that the President has neglected persons who appear to be critical of ex-president.
He said the facts do not support the claim, saying, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu who contested Mills in the flag-bearership position, Alban Bagbin, Afotey Agbo who are said to be critical of the president have all been given ministerial positions.
He also dismissed assertions that ex-president Rawlings has been left homeless. That he said is a mischievous comment by Dr. Garbrah calculated at creating disaffection for President Mills.
Mr. Ablakwa for “security reasons” would not make public what government is doing to provide accommodation for ex-president Rawlings but said plans are far advanced to house the ex-president in a befitting residence.
