President John Evans Atta-Mills has charged the clergy to use the pulpits as change agents in the crusade against heightening political intolerance in the country. The president was worried at the increasing polarization in the country following weeks of name-calling mostly by politicians. Addressing a section of the clergy at the Peduase Lodge on the Aburi hills Friday, the president thanked the church leaders for their unflinching support and prayers and expressed hope that they will intervene in their own way to assuage the growing intolerance in the country. The president said the collaboration between the State and Church will always inure to the benefit of the populace. Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Employment and Social Welfare Minister, E.T. Mensah said many politicians and social commentators are members of various churches in the country and believes the clergy can use their offices to transform lives. “All of us who are making inflammatory statements on the airwaves and creating panic and insecurity, we all belong to churches. So what has to be done is that charity begins at home and that we use the pulpit to raise some of the issues and educate people," he stated. He said armed robbery was another topical issue with the clergy blaming the increased crime on the paucity of moral education in the country.
