A 52-year old farmer, Kwame Amissah has been butchered by a suspected thief in Assin Kushea in the Assin North Municipality in the Central Region.
The suspect, Yaw Nkansah, 25, is said to have butchered the farmer when he [farmer] caught him stealing from his farm.
Assemblyman for the area said he had received numerous reports from the farmer about his missing crops and decided to hide on the farm to catch the culprits.
Through his vigilance, he caught Yaw Nkansah, the Assemblyman said.
He added that a struggle ensued when the suspect was caught. He overpowered the farmer and butchered him with a machete.
The farmer lost his life while he was being conveyed from the farm to the hospital.
Yaw Nkansah is said to have fled the town after the incident. Some youth of t he town have mounted a search for him.
Meanwhile, Assin Praso Police District Commander, Superintendent Alhassan Sabaliko, says the police have advised residents against taking the law into their own hands.
“We have told them to hold on for the law to take its own course. They shouldn’t rush into anything or vandalize any property.”
He said they are working assiduously to capture Nkansah.
