Mr Henry Cia, country representative of Winalite Ghana Limited, a Chinese company, has been arrested for allegedly influencing people to buy "Love Moon Anion" sanitary pads as medication in Accra.
The sanitary pad, has a green substance at the inner section and it is believe that when it is dissolved in water and taken as a drink, it will grant menstrual pain relief as well as check high blood pressure and other gynaecological disorders.
Dr Stephen Opuni, Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) said the product was imported into the country by the said company and registered by the FDB as a medical device for sanitary use only.
He said following a complaint by a user of the product from Have in the Volta Region, who experienced stiff-necked, dizziness and swollen breast; a team from the Board's Inspectorate Department interrogated Mr Cia.
Dr Opuni said it was revealed that although Mr Cia, acknowledged that the product was to be used as a sanitary pad, information on it indicated that it was to be used as medication.
He noted that the Board would do its best to ensure that the product was withdrawn from the market because the information contained in the leaflet of the product was misleading.
