Ato Sam, (aka Baby Ansaba) Editor of the New Punch newspaper, was yesterday charged by an Accra Motor Court with careless driving on the Mallam-Kasoa Highway which led to the death of a 60-year-old pastor a year ago.
The accused person, who was without counsel, pleaded not guilty to three charges of careless driving, negligently causing harm and driving without license.
The trial judge, Mariam Sala Sinare, granted him a GH¢2,000 bail with one surety.
The case was adjourned to December 14, 2010.
The prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector A. Ahiagbor who presented the facts of the case, told the court that the accused person, a journalist, on December 6 2009 was driving a Ford Mondeo vehicle around 7:30pm on the Mallam-Kasoa Highway.
When he reached the main junction between Mallam and Kasoa, Baby Ansaba hit a male adult, who was a pastor by name Davies Ola Nimo, killing him instantly.
The Prosecutor noted that during investigations, it was detected that Ansaba did not have a valid driver’s license at the time he hit the pastor.
Explaining further, the Chief Inspector noted that later, several attempts to get in touch with Ansaba on the matter proved futile so he was served with a writ of summons to appear before the trial judge.
