The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Solomon Abbam-Quaye has ordered market women at the Awutu Bontrase old market to move immediately to the new site or face the law.
The DCE made the order during a meeting with the queen mother, women leaders, Assembly members and some opinion leaders of the town.
He said the Assembly spent over 49 million cedis in the preparation of the new site upon request by the women from the town and expressed regret that the same women were hesitating to move to the new site.
Mr. Abbam-Quaye said the old market located along the lorry road in the town posed a risk to the market women, hence the need for the assembly to relocate them to avoid any accident.
On the electrification of the town, the DCE urged the people to exercise patience because the Assembly had impressed on the contractor to complete the project as soon as possible.
The DCE expressed concern about the haphazard manner drivers park along the main street of the town despite several warning to them to avoid that practice.
The Queen mother, Naachyi Owudea I, expressed her gratitude to the government for the extension of electricity to the town and appealed for its early completion.
She appealed to the District Assembly to rehabilitate the Awutu-Beraku-Bontrase road to facilitate easy movement of passengers and goods.
