A second-year student of the University for Development Studies is in police custody for allegedly raping a first year colleague.
The accused, Sadat Mohammed, is alleged to have forcibly slept with the female victim who had sought his company to a revival meeting.
Both the accused and victim are students at the Wa campus of the university in the Upper West Region.
Joy FM’s Upper West Regional Correspondent, Rafik Salam, reports that after the lady sought the company of Sadat, the accused, probably harbouring diabolic ideas, asked her to come to his house at Sombo so they could go to the revival meeting.
According to the Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Kofi Danso Addae Acheampong, as soon as the victim entered Sadat’s room, he locked the door and engaged her in a battle.
Eventually he managed to overpower her, but she lodged a complaint with the police after her ordeal, leading to Sadat’s arrest.
The accused was arraigned before court and remanded in police custody for two weeks.
