The Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa says the supposed New Patriotic Party delegation that went to the Oguaa Traditional Council to plead on his behalf did so without his express knowledge and authority. Kwamena Bartels former Minister for Works and Housing together with Kwamena Duncan, Regional Secretary for the NPP in the Central Region led a delegation to the Traditional Council ostensibly to apologise and broker peace between PC Appiah Ofori and the Council. The council has been on a collision course with the MP following the controversial Fetu Afahye festival in which the New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage were allegedly ignored by the traditional council and organizers of the festival. The council after the festival stated they were unaware of the presence of the NPP flagbearer, but PC Appiah Ofori hinted that could not be true. The council has since then demanded apology from the Asikuma-Odobeng Brakwa MP for referring to them as liars. A statement of apology sent by the MP to the chiefs was deemed unsatisfactory by the council, deepening the wedge between the two- the MP and the council. On Thursday, the NPP delegation went to the council with the aim of settling the dispute, but the council members refused to meet the delegation, protesting the absence of PC Appiah Ofori. In what appeared to be a twist of the tale, the MP told Joy News’ Cyrus DeGraft Johnson he is unaware of any delegation to the Oguaa chiefs. “I have not sent anybody to the Oguaa chiefs,” he stated, adding “if somebody is going to apologise on your behalf, don’t you seek clearance from that person.” Both Mr Bartels and Duncan have declined comment on the matter. PC Appiah Ofori has however vowed to take on the Daily Guide newspaper for suggesting that the council had snubbed him.
