John Mensah is expected to play through the pain for Sunderland as the Black Cats gamble on his fitness once again.
The Ghanaian was rushed back from a dislocated shoulder injury for last weekend’s game against Stoke City and will be prepared for the visit of West Ham to the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Sunderland have no options central defensive pairing Titus Bramble and Michael Turner unavailable through injuries.
"John took another whack on his bad shoulder on Saturday but we think he'll be okay," Sunderland boss Steve Bruce told the club`s official website.
"I thought John did okay (at Wolves) considering what he's had. Him making himself available is a testament to the boy."
