The Electoral Commission says it will be compelled to postpone the district assembly elections if there are further delays in the release of funds.Funds for the commission’s activities are released in tranches by government. The EC said it cannot organize the district assembly elections scheduled for the 28 of this month without the release of the next trance. The Chairman of the Electoral Commission Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan told Joy News that “We’ve made the arrangement from the very beginning of the year, the money to pay those people who will do the elections, we don’t need now because we will pay them after they’ve done the elections. What we need now, now that we’ve taken nominations, will be mobilisaion money to pay the printers.”He said people who were engaged to do limited voter registration exercise did not receive their money in time because government delayed in releasing money to the EC.Dr. Afari Gyan is hopeful the funds will be released on time to avoid the problems that characterized the opening of the voters register this year.Source: Joy News/Ghana
