Turkish coach Can Vanli was axed from the five-man shortlist of coaches for the Black Stars job after the Ghana Football Association discovered he was not an assistant for Turkey at the 2002 World Cup as his application had claimed.
The documents regarding the Turk's application lodged at the Ghana Football Association named him as an assistant coach but his own personal website lists him as a ‘tactical analysts' during the 2002 World Cup and the 2003 Confederations Cup for Turkey.
The Ghana Football Association has communicated their decision to withdraw his invitation for the interview and will now go ahead to deal with the four remaining names on the shortlist.
The episode though will pose major questions about how the football association themselves did their background checks before the shortlist was drawn up.
The presence of Vanli who now coaches in the Maldives Islands on the list drew widespread criticisms.
He had also previously applied for the Kumasi Asante Kotoko job before Bogdan Korak was shipped in from Serbia for the position.
