The Atwima-Mponua District Assembly has set up a task force to check detractors of the re-denomination of the cedi which comes into force in two weeks.
The District Chief Executive of the area, Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, who announced this when touring some communities in the district at Bayerebon Number Three, said he mooted the idea for the formation of the task force in anticipation of the activities of miscreants who always emerged during periods of currency change to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
He allayed the fears of members of the communities most of whom felt anxious to change their monies but feared that they would be duped, and assured them that both currencies will be in circulation and used together for the next six months and that their monies could be changed at any bank.
Mr Owusu-Ansah urged them to co-operate with the task force by reporting all suspected cases of counterfeiting and other fraud-related problems.
The DCE also visited Bayerebon Number Two, Wurebegu and Kwabenakwa and was accompanied by Mr Harmet Osei, Presiding member of the assembly.
