The Electoral Commission has confirmed district level elections in the Lower Manya District in the Eastern Region would not come off later this month as scheduled.
The elections are expected to be held across the country this month with the mounting of platforms for candidates currently underway.
But the EC says the elections in Manya Krobo will not go ahead after youth in the area locked up the offices of the commission.
This follows an impasse over the re-alignment of some electoral areas in the district.
Parliament recently re-aligned six electoral areas in Akuse, also in the Lower Manya District to the Dangbe West District.
Some angry residents of Lower Manya who claim they may be disenfranchised as a result of the changes locked up electoral materials.
Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC Christian Owusu Parry says the elections can only be held at a later date.
He told Joy News’ Fiifi Koomson the resident will only be able to cast their ballot after the matter is resolved.
Whilst conceding the action by the residents is illegal, he said the EC has made several complaints to the police for action to be taken.
He hoped the police will bring order for the elections to take place later.
Mr. Owusu-Parry says the mounting of platforms has not been postponed as being speculated.
According to him platforms have been mounted in several parts of the country except the Greater Accra Region which starts on Monday.
