Ghana’s second oil field, Tweneboah Enyera Ntome (TEN) Field is finally expected to pump its first oil next week. Engineers working on the vessel, FPSO Atta Mills are finalising work on the field with a 25-year life span.
It has the capacity to produce about 80 thousand barrels of oil daily.
Project Director, Terry Hughes however tells Joy Business, an average of 23,000 barrels is to be produced daily and ramped up in due course.
"We are still in the final stages of commissioning working on some big major equipment. We have a forecast of what oil production will do for 2016 exactly on average 23,000 barrels per day," he said.
"Obviously, we are starting now so we have only half of the year to go, so we will be producing significantly more than that to make up the average," he added.
According to him, they have only realized they are at the very early stages of a very large field and are cautious about figures and only mentioning averages.
He said once they start production they will be able to give specific figures regarding productions and they are optimistic it would perform much better than others.
Terry Hughes spoke with Joy Business at a Press Soiree organized by the TEN partners that is Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, Anadarko Petroleum, GNPC and Petro-SA.
Oil Production at the TEN Field is expected to boost not only Ghana’s oil revenues but essentially also provide substantial volumes of oil and gas required for power generation.
This is part of inititaives towards finding lasting solution to the country’s energy crisis.
