NDC pressure group, the Gbewaa Youth Association in Tamale, has called for the immediate dismissal of Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu, National Director of the National Service Scheme.
This call is in support of an earlier threat by another NDC youth association calling itself the Suglo Malinyori Association, which threatened to lock up the Northern Regional offices of the National Service Secretariat on Wednesday December 22.
Chief Zaachi Salman Sibri, Chairman of the Gbewaa Youth Association condemned Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu for ignoring calls on him to rescind his decision to dismiss all 962 voluntary service Arabic Instructors in the Tamale metropolis.
He noted that Mr. Kuagbenu’s decision, if not reversed could cause the NDC’s downfall in 2012.
According to Salman Sibri, the National Service Secretariat Director claims to be President Mills’ “darling boy” and that nobody can intimidate him.
He reminded President Mills of similar actions by some NDC top hierarchy under former President Jerry John Rawlings’ watch which he said caused the party’s efeat in 2000.
He therefore called on President John Evans Atta Mills to fire Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu or else “his (Kuagbenu's) arrogance” will spell the NDC’s doom in Tamale which also happens to be the stronghold of the NDC.
Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu, who is threatened by the anger of the youth, has called on the IGP to offer protection to National Service personnel, especially in Tamale.
According to him, there have been several attacks on regional directors of the scheme as well as personnel in Tamale.
Mr Kuagbenu says the scheme has been compelled to hurriedly move some directors out of the town due to such attacks by some miscreants in Tamale.
