A group calling itself the Loyal Sympathizers of NPP has called on the former Interior Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Nana Obiri Yeboah to make himself available as the running mate to Nana Addo for the 2012 elections. In a press statement released on Tuesday, the group said Nana Obiri-Boahene, in their view and in the view of other party members, represents an embodiment of “NPP virtues and values.” The statement further said “we strongly believe that he (Nana Obiri-Boahene) holds the key to an NPP victory in 2012. It is also time for the NPP to be reclaimed by its real adherents - those who truly believe in its virtues and values.” Among the reasons enumerated by the group indicating why Nana Obiri-Boahene is the best candidate to partner Nana Addo for the 2012 elections were that as a legal practitioner Obiri-Boahene has worked hard “to defend many party activists across the entire country.” The group explained that whilst serving in various capacities in the party, Mr. Obiri-Boahene excelled in ensuring that the party’s principles and recognition were maintained. “This is the time for our great NPP party to move to a new phase in its democratic development by electing Nana Obiri-Boahene who has all the qualities and personal appeal to pair our formidable Presidential candidate Nana Addo Danquah to clinch power from NDC,” the statement said. The group stated that the selection of a running mate and other parliamentary candidates towards the 2012 elections should be the party’s primary concern adding, “to enhance the party's chances of winning the 2012 election and to position the party for subsequent election, it is a fact that a strong, dynamic, committed, loyal and intellectually stimulating individual who has the ability to appeal to floating voters is selected to boost the ticket of Nana Akuffo Addo Dankwa.” Story by Derick Romeo adogla/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
