Mike Ocquaye is opportunistic – Kofi Adams

Aide to former President Rawlings Kofi Adams has described Prof. Mike Ocquaye, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament as opportunistic for his criticism of the celebration of the 31st December Revolution and yet extolling the coup in his book.According to him, Prof Mike Oquaye in his book “Politics in Ghana” praised the revolution and said it was necessary.Kofi Adams on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday noted that it is important to commemorate the event to remind the country that the incidents which led to the revolution does not repeat itself in the country.He added that, the celebration is to also prevent misinformation in relation to the incidents that happened during the Revolution because the people who took the laws into their hands were punished.The 29th anniversary of the 31st December Revolution is on the theme Integrity for Sustainable Development and will be climax by a public lecture on Friday at the Teachers’ Hall in Accra where the leader of the Revolution, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings will be the Special Guest of Honour.Meanwhile Prof Mike Oquaye says “I have never praised any military coup in the country.According to him, his book Politic in Ghana 1972 to 1979 published in 1980 talked about Acheampong and Akuffo era and a small part about the AFRC.He added Kofi Adams is a confused man, explaining that "since we are in the scientific world, Kofi Adams can justify his conclusion by quoting the page which he claims I said that."He explained that the book he wrote about the PNDC era was Politics in Ghana: 1982 to 1992 in which he published what happened during the Revolution.Meanwhile, Johnson Aseidu Nketia General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the party will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the 31st December Revolution day across the country.Story by Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
