Outspoken lawyer and former Member of Parliament for Zebilla has been handed what political analysts would say is the blow likely to end his political carrier.
Mr John Ndebugre’s decision to run for the district assembly elections was described as a major self demotion never seen in the country’s recent political history.
Some however lauded the move as an injection of quality material that was set to bring great dividend to political leadership at the local level.
John Ndebugre switched allegiance from the Peoples National Convention (PNC) to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after he lost hparliamentary seat in the 2008 elections.
He got tongues wagging when a few months ago he decided to contest as an assembly member for the Timonde Electoral Area.
At the end of the election, thirty-eight-year-old Julius Ayaaba secured 580 ballots to beat Ndebugre who managed 381 votes.
While graciously conceding defeat, saying if Ayaaba is the choice of the people so be it, he believes the chaotic nature of the elections contributed to his defeat.
The former MP told Joy News if the Electoral Commission had done a better job at the conduct of the elections, there could have been a better outcome for him.
He rejected suggestions the results marks the beginning of the end of his political ambition stressing he is not a career politician in the first place.
Mr Ndebugre said there were many elections for him in the future and “if I don’t die, I may in the next few years try to be president of the Republic [of Ghana].”
