Ahead of the media encounter with the President of the Republic on Friday morning, some senior members of the media fraternity - media owners, senior journalists, show hosts and producers - have been speaking on matters they intend to raise at the Friday forum.
President Mills on his hundred days in office and then on the first anniversary of his administration last year, met media practitioners on issues of national importance.
Sharing their thoughts on Asempa FM’s current affairs programme Ekosii Sen, host of Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo, Kwame Sefa-Kayi said questions on reshuffle, petroleum price hikes, the STX deal, the celebration of the December 31 military takeover, the Ivorian crisis, Ghana’s oil and its revenue will all feature for him.
When Pollster and Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper Ben Ephson joined the conversation, he indicated that the TOR Debt will come up, the ex-gratia for Article 71 holders; whether as President he will apologize to Ghanaians for breaking his promise to reduce fuel prices drastically, and the President’s relationship with former President Rawlings among others.
Ben Ephson expressed hope President Mills is on top of issues and will answer all questions appropriately.
Affail Monney, Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association said as mouthpiece of the populace, the media’s encounter with the President will represent all shades of opinions.
The GJA Vice President said he would want to know from the president what Ghana’s foreign policy direction is currently as there have been speculations of Ghana tacitly supporting Laurent Gbagbo in the Ivorian crisis, as well as questions on media development and democracy.
Mr. Monney indicated that the President’s promise to hold monthly broadcasts and establishing a media development fund that have not materialized will also be raised.
He said of particular concern will be how he the president has fared in the pursuit of the Better Ghana Agenda in relation to the declaration of 2011 as action year; issues on the duration of senior high school as well as national security in the midst of armed robbery attacks.
Adakabre Frimpong Manso of Adom FM said his utmost concern will be the president’s decisiveness on national issues. Achievements so far of reducing poverty and maternal mortality under the Millennium Development Goals will also be raised. He also said even though President Mills once said he had no problem with the former President, their relations suggest otherwise, as witnessed in the last 12 months.
Meanwhile, Communication Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho has said all is set for Friday’s event, adding that President Mills is ready to answer all questions that will be raised at the event.
