An Executive Committee member of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has described it as remarkable, the coordination between the Ghana Football Association and that of the Government.
Mr. Afriyie discounted rumours of tension between the government and the F.A and said that, there is absolute cooperation between the Ministry of Sports and the Football Association.
He denied speculations that the government is trying to interfere in their administration but said that have times that suggestions are made to the Association which he said does not amount to interference since government is also a major stake holder in the sports.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Morning Show, Mr. Afriyie noted the sour relationship between the Football Association and the Government as described by some people are mere speculations which shouldn’t be given prominence because “they are all lies”.
Mr Afriyie stressed that there has always been cooperation between the FA and the government. What has been lacking, he said, is that the sides do not usually come out publicly to state it.
In a related development, spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey has commended President John Atta Mills for acknowledging the fact that certain individuals are using his name to meddle in the running of sports in the country.
President Mills in his response to a question posed to him at his meeting with editors and senior journalists at the Castle on Friday, noted that he is aware of certain people going round the sporting circles with his name but said he has deliberately decided to allow the structures to deal with such persons.
The GFA spokesperson in a follow up interview with Asempa News said the president has shown that he is indeed not pleased with the manner in which some people attempt to meddle in sports in the country.
Randy Abbey therefore called on such persons to back off and allow the mandated persons at the helm of affairs to do their job.
