Deputy Local Government Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has cautioned functionaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress against issuing threats to government appointees whose decisions and conduct they disagree with.
He said threatening to forcibly remove public officers from office and close their offices was unacceptable.
Mr Afriyie’s caution comes after party executives in the Ashanti region demanded the dismissal of some District Chief Executives there.
He wants those dissatisfied with DCEs to report such to the appreciate quarters.
In his view, while those who raise the issues may have legitimate concerns, threatening to take the law into own hands as has always been the case cannot be acceptable.
He reminded supporters of the governing party that it is only the president who has the power to make appointments and to revoke those appointments.
The Deputy Minister however stressed the need for appointees at the local to work to meet the aspirations of the people.
He said DCEs must adopt open door policies and engage the people fruitfully, believing that that solve a lot of the problems at the district and municipal levels.
