The inflation rate for the month of September was 17.2 percent, representing an upward movement of 0.3 percent from the 16.9 rate in August.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a monthly research which measures the change over time in the general price level of goods and services said the new inflation was influenced by the change in the computation from September 2015 to September 2016.
“The monthly change rate for September 2016 was 0.2 percent compared to the -0.6 percent recorded for August 2016,” a monthly newsletter by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has said.
The food and non-alcoholic beverages group pooled 9.0 percent inflation which is a 0.5 percentage point higher than the August figure.
The non-food category recorded inflation rate of 21.6 percent in the month under review comparatively different from the 21.5 percent in August.
The education sector recorded the highest inflation rate of 32.5 percent closely followed by the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels which had 28.0 percent.
The rest are Recreation and culture 27.6 percent, Transport with 27.3 percent, clothing and footwear 23.2 percent, Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance 23.0 percent and Communication subgroup record as low as 11.3 percent inflation rate.
At the regional level, two regions namely Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions recorded inflation rates higher above the national average of 17.2 percent. Greater Accra Region recorded 20.8 percent inflation rate.
The inflation of the rest ranged from 13.8 percent.
