Members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC) have lodged their displeasure against the Minister for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs for ignoring their appeals to let their registrar remain in the region.

This was after a delegation from the GARHC led by Nene Kanor Atiapah III, acting paramount chief for Ningo Traditional Area held a meeting with Dr Seidu Daanaa regarding Mr Attipoe’s stay.

“We believe requesting for Mr Attipoe’s stay to complete the good works he has started is in the right direction. If there are issues or allegations over his stewardship in the Kpone Traditional area we suggest that the right approach must be taken,” Nene stated.

Nene Kanor Atiapah III added the registrar, has worked very hard to ensure sanity in all the traditional areas in the region and that explains why the region has recorded significant drop in chieftaincy disputes.

They also mentioned his contribution to the relative calmness in matters involving chiefs in the Region.

“The immense peace we are enjoying in our various traditional areas is as a result of the hard work and constant workshops on conflict resolution that Mr Attipoe has been taking the paramount chiefs in the region through,” Nene Atiapah III mentioned.

He stated that the workshops they (chiefs) mandated Mr Attipoe to organize they believe was the beginning of his woes, because after he completed eight out of 13 traditional councils.

A letter had come from the Ministry cautioning all staff to desist from organizing such workshops and also not to grant interviews to the press.

Subsequently, he said a transfer letter followed which prompted the leadership including members of the house as the reason for his transfer.

However, because they directed him to organize the workshops they cautioned him not to further grant any interviews to which he obliged, but surprisingly to them his transfer letter started circulating on social media, “something we find very strange”.

At a media interaction in Dodowa, at the GARHC head office, Nene Kanor Atiapah III said the House was aware of a transfer letter the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs had sent to Mr Attipoe to start work in the Volta Region with immediate effect.

That transfer, he said, was one that would affect the operations of the House “because we know the contributions the registrar has been doing to ensure that Greater Accra chiefs enjoyed total peace.”

Nene Kanor Atiapah III noted that Mr Attipoe has been the registrar of the house for three years now since his elevation from the Kpone Traditional Council.

He added that for the three years that he has been registrar he has excelled in discharging his duties including spearheading the codification of the “Kpone Customary Law”, the only Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region that has its line of succession codified into law. He also masterminded a lot of projects for the Kpone Traditional Council.

Nene Kanor Atiapah III noted that the chiefs of the region are surprised that some youth have taken to the streets in respect of Mr Attipoe’s transfer which does not concern them in any way.

He believes that there are some faceless people in responsible positions who are instigating the youth to embark on such needless demonstrations.

They further called on officials of the Ministry and other bodies not to be leaking official documents to the public to serve their own selfish interest or to discredit others. 

They believe this could lead to chaos and advised officials in responsible places not to use their positions for their selfish interest but to work and make the country a better place for all.
