The US government has pledged to review the trade initiatives and opportunities available to Ghanaian businesses to make them more attractive.
Some of the initiatives include the establishment of the USAID-funded West Africa Trade Hub and the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) which both seek to boost Ghanaian exports to the US.
According to the Deputy US Trade Representative, Demetrios Marantis, though the initiatives have been quite successful so far, there is still a lot of untapped potential.
He was speaking to some selected journalists at the end of a visit to Ghana.
He said although Ghanaian exports under AGOA - which places zero tariffs on almost 92 percent of the goods Ghana exports to the US had increased by 129 percent, more could be done.
“We are working with the Ghanaian government on trying to identify new export opportunities for Ghanaian products into the US market,” he noted.
