Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that four persons were shot yesterday morning around 7:00 at Dodi-Mempe Asem in the Kadjebi District of the Volta Region.
The victims, two primary school pupils, a young lady and a young man (names withheld), were shot by one Issaka Mumuni.
An eyewitness, Harisu Issaka, who narrated the incident to Daily Guide, disclosed that the two male pupils, 11 and 12 years, were shot in the stomach and shoulder respectively.
Daily Guide was informed that the one shot in the stomach seemed to have a little chance of surviving.
His intestines, according Kadjebi District Chief Executive, Seth Frank Alifui, who confirmed the story, were perforated and his liver was equally affected.
The young lady, who is believed to be about 20 years, was shot in the right eye while the young man, believed to be 25years, was shot in the mouth, leading to the destruction of his dental formula.
The eyewitness indicated that as at the time the victims were conveyed to the Dodi Papasi Hospital, the bullet was still stuck in the mouth of the young man who was bleeding profusely.
The eyewitness said three days ago, one Mallam Fuseini died in the area and after his burial, the alleged gunman, Issaka Mumuni, claimed that the deceased had gravely offended him. Issaka believed it served Mallam Fuseini right to die.
His utterances raised suspicions about his alleged involvement in Fuseini’s death as claimed by the deceased’s family.
Yesterday morning, before the incident happened, Issaka Mumuni allegedly repeated his utterances again in the family house of the deceased when friends, relatives and sympathizers had come to express their condolences to the family.
This angered the family members who started hooting at him and accusing him of killing the deceased.
Issaka Mumuni supposedly became furious and left the place for his house. However, some young ladies related to the deceased, who were going to fetch water at Mumuni’s house (which has the only pipe borne water in the village) continued hooting at him till he got to his house.
When Mumuni got to his house, he entered his room and allegedly brought out a cutlass and told the ladies he would slash them if they didn’t stop hooting at him.
The cutlass was then taken away from him by some young men who were passing by.
Mumuni entered his room again and came back with a rifle and aimed at one Alhaji Moro, a brother of the deceased’s, who was passing by.
Mumuni entered his room and reloaded his rifle, hid inside and aimed and fired outside.
He then fired at the two primary pupils who were on their way to school, followed by the young lady and the young man, after which he fled the town.
This angered the people of the town who burnt down the house of Issaka Mumuni.
A police source confirmed the incident to Daily Guide and disclosed that Issaka later reported himself to the Ahamansu Police who transferred him to the Kadjebi police.
Investigations are still ongoing.
