Kwasi Amoah, unemployed, described by the Police as a stubborn criminal, returns to jail for 36 months in hard labour for stealing, after having served a prison term previously on charges of stealing at Twifo Praso in the Central Region.
The Akim Oda Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region on Thursday convicted Amoah on two counts of unlawful entry and stealing, both of which he admitted.
The court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor sentenced Amoah to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour on each count. The sentences are to run consecutively.
Detective Inspector Kingsley Antwi told the Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda that Amoah unlawfully did enter Mr Kwasi Mustapha's room through a window and made away with a Sony car tape worth GH¢200, and a cash of GH¢80 among other things.
Inspector Antwi said Mr Mustapha, a diamond dealer, had travelled to Akim Aduasa and Agona Swedru and on his return detected the theft of the items, after his room had been ransacked.
He said Amoah was spotted with the items by a witness in the case and was given a hot chase but he managed to get away.
The Police Detective stated that Amoah chose Twifo Praso as his hideout where he indulged in a similar act and was arrested, prosecuted, convicted and jailed at Twifo Praso.
But the irony of the situation is that immediately after serving his prison term, he returned to Akim Aduasa where he was immediately arrested and prosecuted for the crime he had earlier committed and bolted.
