Some Members of Parliament have raised concern about a proposal to levy a one percent charge on hotel room rates for the establishment of a Tourism Development Fund.
The proposal forms part of modifications to the tourism amendment bill currently being considered by the house.
At its second reading yesterday, some MPs said the levy could add to the already high room rates and especially discourage domestic tourism.
Others however disagreed.
The objective of the bill is to ensure better regulation of the sector.
The Tourism Minister promised that various concerns raised would be considered.
