A one-day meeting to discuss concerns raised by service providers of the National Health Insurance Scheme over the new medicine list provided by the National Health Insurance Authority(NHIA) opened at Koforidua on Thursday.
The meeting, which was convened by the Ministry of Health, would discuss the types of drugs to be prescribed at the various levels of health care as prescribed in the new medicine list of the NHIA.
Briefing the media after the opening of the meeting, Mr Osei B. Acheampong Director of Research and Development of the NHIA, said the essence of the NHIA medicine list was to ensure improvement in the quality of health care at various levels of the health care administration.
Mr Acheampong said there had been situations where the NHIA had come across an issue where drugs which were expected to be prescribed at tertiary level of care were being prescribed at primary levels.
He said such situations created problems in the refund of medical bills sent to the NHIA by the service providers.
