You are a nation wrecker if you do as much as wish for the failure of the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
Like all contest, there can be only a winner.
The winner of the last election did not win controversially. It was a convincing win. What the soon-to-be opposition NDC will call one-touch victory.
Little wonder then that even before the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission could announce the results, the main contender of the President-elect, President John Dramani Mahama, had thrown in the towel and gone ahead to congratulate the winner, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
Every citizen owes his or her nation unflinching allegiance in order to promote its ultimate interest over and above any personal, political and sectional interest. Indeed we have all pledged to defend and protect Ghana even if it requires our blood.
Nothing short of this is required of any true patriot, not least helping whoever is president to be successful.
Citizens who under the guise of partisan interest work against Ghana and its leadership are nation wreckers and guilty of treason.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is the president of Ghana. His actions and inactions affect me directly and indirectly. Thus he deserves my support.
For instance, assuming his bad foreign and domestic policies create war or aggression against Ghana, I will not have any presence of mind and space to pursue my private interest, either as a citizen or family person.
Also, it is his economic policies and programmes that will create the right atmosphere for my economy.
Therefore, we must necessarily pray for wisdom for him. We all must assist if he requires our service. We must, when appropriate, constructively criticize his programmes while advancing credible and progressive alternatives.
We must bring to his attention whoever is corrupt or sabotaging the national agenda.
And we must stand with him to take difficult decisions which will have long term benefits for the future of our country.
This is not about Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo. It is about Ghana. It is sad if he did not do same for previous governments. Two wrongs make no right. We must be better than those we accuse of wrong doing.
As we have all applauded the credible manner in which a state institution like the Electoral Commission has improved, so must such improvement reflect in every facet of our country including how we conduct our politics.
It is in the light of the above that supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the President-elect must desist from seeing the government as theirs alone. That is not just untrue. It goes a long way to put others off and discourages them from offering necessary assistance to the government.
The NPP and the nation Ghana will be the greatest beneficiaries in the long term if the party allows everybody, regardless their political colour, to help the government and president to succeed.
