The Minister of the Interior has on the advice of the Northern and Upper East Regional Security Councils respectively, and by Executive Instrument, renewed the curfews imposed on the Gushegu Township and Bawku Municipality and their immediate environs with effect from Monday, April 18, 2011.
The curfew hours for the Gushegu Township are 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am and those for the Bawku Municipality are 11:00 pm to 4:00 am each day, according to a statement signed by Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, Minister of the Interior.
The statement said Government was very much encouraged by the return of relative peace to both the Gushegu Township and Bawku Municipality and their immediate environs and appealed to all stakeholders to continue to ensure that lasting and sustainable peace returned to their respective communities.
Meanwhile, Government reiterated that there was a ban on all persons in the Gushegu Township and Bawku Municipality and their immediate environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons, and that any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
