Members of the Dagaaba community in Abesim in the Brong-Ahafo region are fleeing the area after one of them was accused of killing a native of the town.
They fear reprisal attacks after a brawl at a drinking spot, Monday, left a native, Yaw Poku dead.
Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander DCOP Robert Ayalingo confirmed the incident, saying, the police is hunting for the suspect who is believed to have fled with some members of his ethnic group.
The youth in the area have been angered by the incident and took to the streets blocking the main Kumasi-Sunyani road in protest.
The irate youth clashed with the police with the latter throwing tear gas to disperse them.
Two of the natives have reportedly being injured after the clash.
DCOP Robert Ayalingo, cautioned the youth against taking the law into their hands and enlisted the assistance of the chiefs to resolve the crisis.
Chief of Abesim, Nana Kumi Achiaw, told Joy News about 100 of the Dagaaba’s have fled.
He said he has called a durbar to calm the nerves of the angry youth and urged the fleeing Dagaaba’s to return.
