Teens Aloud Foundation, a youth development organization which has a sole purpose of creating avenues for young people to come together to be modelled and challenged into positive Christian living, will gather 4,000 BECE and WASSCE graduates at pavilion 'A' of Trade Fair, La, for two separate events jointly dubbed THE NEW BREED PROJECT.
The event director, Derek Smith hinted that THE NEW BREED PROJECT 2011 (comprising NEW BREED for JHS graduates on the 30th of April 2011 and NEW BREED 'X' for SHS graduates on the 11th of June 2011) was concieved after observing over the period that positive avenues did not exist for BECE and WASSSCE graduates.
Thus, these graduates spend over 3600 hours of free time doing nothing beneficial.
Mr Smith said “The NEW BREED PROJECT” will bring together these graduates to be challenged towards a life of purpose whilst thanking God and socialising with friends from other schools through music and dance.
Speaking to myjoyonline.com, the Executive Director of the foundation, KK Baidoo, stressed the importance of young people getting to discover their God given purpose in this life.
"The numerous cases of students being led astray through negative peer pressure will stop when students realize a higher purpose to which they have been called" he added.
Mr Baidoo also observed that research has shown that students without an agenda for their free time easily fell prey to various temptations ranging from sexual immorality through drug addiction.
He further noted, "Young people have a lot of energy which never stays idle, you either tap it for useful purposes or it will by default seek to satisfy sensual curiosity".
As a solution, he added, the "thousand hours virtue project" will be launched during the programme to afford participants the opportunity to commit thousand hours of their free time at home to a virtue project of their choice.
He called on all parents, guardians and siblings to support this worthy cause by dropping off their wards and contributing resources in both cash and kind to support the initiative.
Mr Baidoo bemoaned the situation where organizations refused to support such good programmes because of their religious content, citing the National Youth Policy which envisages in article 9.6 the role of Religious Organizations in providing moral guidance to the youth.
He concluded that to aid transportation to and from the venue, buses will be provided at vantage points - University of Ghana main gate, Dansoman roundabout, Sakumono Bonjour and Dan's Bar, North Kaneshie - for the students, assuring that item 13 would be provided.
