Two suspected members of a car-snatching syndicate operating in Kumasi and other parts of the country are in the grips of police.
A third person whose name is being withheld is on the run.
Twenty-two year old Kwame George and Kwame Tawiah, 28, were arrested Thursday night upon a tip-off at Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi, where they were preparing to launch an attack on their targets.
The Police retrieved from the suspects a Toyota Corolla saloon believed to have been forcefully seized from its owner.
Other items found on them include a locally-manufactured pistol with live ammunition, vehicle registration plates, road-worthy certificates and a hood.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah, said the syndicate has largely contributed to the high rate crime recorded in the region in the first quarter of this year.
According to him, the leader of the gang who is on the run is a notorious car-snatcher.
DCOP Timbillah assured residents within and outside Kumasi that the police will pursue the leader and make the region a safe place for all.
Meanwhile, police have also arrested two suspected robbers who broke into the residence of the Regional Director of Food and Agriculture at Asokwa on Wednesday.
A security man who managed to outwit the assailants called in police to arrest Iddrisu Anarfo and Kofi Anokye.
They wielded a single-barrelled gun and live ammunition, while another believed to be the leader of the gang escaped.
Two heavy-duty vehicle batteries also stolen from an agro-chemical shop were retrieved.
