Journalists who were at the National Democratic Headquarters (NDC) headquarters to witness Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings pick nomination forms to contest the party’s flag bearer position have expressed disgust at the treatment meted out to them by her security detail.
Some journalists who spoke to Citi FM after the event were outraged at the manner they were treated as they sought to take photographs or interview Mrs Rawlings.
“I couldn’t get a single shot and that is rubbish… on the part of those who think they are protecting Konadu. Konadu herself will like to get to be people like the husband; always nearing people, getting closer to people, interacting with people… What does that mean,” an incensed media practitioner vented.
Another journalist who faced a similar fate blamed the organisers for the hiccup.
He said “Kofi Adams should do something about this; it doesn’t speak well about the Rawlingses. Those who organized the event didn’t organize it well. Look at the way especially the media was treated. At a point some of them (security officials) were telling us - when we were asking them to give us way – to go back to where we came from and that is not good.”
Others told Myjoyonline.com it was virtually impossible getting access to the former first lady who was completely under the umbrella of the security detail.
These journalists therefore urged the organizers to ensure that such a situation does not occur in the future as it will affect the image of the candidate.
Meanwhile, Mrs Rawlings successfully picked up her nomination forms Tuesday morning and is gearing up to officially launch her campaign.
