Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have welcomed the boom speeches from former President Jerry John Rawlings’ camp as weapons for the NPP to fire back at the NDC in 2012.
Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Sammy Awuku told Adom News the criticism, accusations and insults from the Rawlings camp were obvious admissions of the failure of the NDC government and will come in handy for the NPP in the 2012 elections.
He stated that the NPP does not need to go far to find statements to campaign against President Mills because former President Rawlings had given them enough to remind the public of in 2012.
Former President Rawlings, his wife Nana Konadu and her campaign manager Michael Teye Nyaunu did not hold back punches during the launch of Nana Konadu’s presidential campaign on Wednesday, May 4.
Both Mr. Rawlings and his wife accused President Mills’ government of vote buying and bribery, and he also accused the party executive of postponing congress twice just to favour president Mills.
Mr. Rawlings also said it is time to change President Mills adding that even if he won the party’s presidential slot, he would lose the 2012 elections to the NPP.
He said the NDC started losing the 2012 elections from the first week President Mills was sworn in and they finally lost it eight months ago.
Mr. Nyaunu described the country as a strong Yutong bus with a weak driver in the person of President Mills and called for his removal.
Another Rawlings faithful, Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah had earlier described the Mills government as sick and the government officials as Team B.
Mr. Awuku said with these kinds of statements from the top hierarchy of the party itself, there was no need to make up anything else to fight against the NDC in 2012 adding they have made the work of the NPP’s communications team much easier.
He noted that the NPP had earlier pointed out that the Mills government was not performing, but spokespersons for the ruling government had always responded with propaganda and insults.
Head of the NPP Communications Team, Nana Akomea said the party pitied President Mills for the level of bashing he has received from the founder of his own party and from other leading members of the party.
