Constituency elections of the Convention Peoples Party have began ahead of preparations towards congress sometime in June.
The party will have two congresses later in the year. One will be to elect national officers while the joint congress with the PNC will elect a flagbearer.
As the time approaches other leading members are working towards national executive positions.
Some within the CPP see the elections as an opportunity to breathe fresh life into the party ahead of the 2012 polls.
Jomoro MP, Samia Nkrumah has not hidden her intentions to contest the chairmanship position and will have competition from former chairman, Dr. Edmund Delle.
For now it is unclear if incumbent Chairman Ladi Nylander will contest.
He has declined to make his intentions known in the short term. Joy News has learnt that another leading member Ekow Duncan is interested in the General Secretary position and he will face-off with CPP UK chairman, Nii Akomfrah.
He told Joy News he has relocated to Ghana to support his party.
Former CPP Communications Director Kosi Dede is looking ahead to the treasurer position.
It will be his second shot at an executive position.
Spokesperson for the pro Nkrumaist pressure group Nkrumah Rising, Issifu Kadir is seeking to take over the National youth Organizer position which Kwabena Bonfeh is giving up to pursue a parliamentary ambition.
Other positions up for grabs are the National Women’s organizer and vice chairmanship positions.
Meanwhile, CPP members interested in the various positions are being cautioned against unfair practices in the ongoing constituency level elections.
Some members of the CPP in the Upper West region allege the elections have been shrouded in secrecy to the extent that forms are being restricted to only few persons.
Party Chairman, Ladi said the party leadership does not endorse any such practice.
