Former President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra on Thursday for Dresden, Germany, to deliver the keynote address at the 33rd Congress of the German Protestant.
The Congress is expected to be attended by about 100,000 participants.
A Statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson at the Office of former President Kufuor, said he would also engage in a high level panel dialogue with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel on the topic: “Towards a New World Order”.
It said the invitation from the church indicated that: “With the 100,000 participants expected, we will transform the city into a place of political, social and ecological debate, interwoven by spiritual and cultural programme”.
“The broad based commitment by citizens will give rise to a huge civil society forum exceeding far beyond the scale of the church,” it added.
The statement noted that former President Kufuor’s speech would touch on the potentials of emerging countries in international trade and politics; the responsibilities of developed countries in ensuring a fairer playing field for all and how African countries could position themselves in order to attain maximum benefits in the globalised economy.
The former President is expected to be away for five days.
