The Christian Council has welcomed government’s intention to deal with pastors who take undue advantage of their members. There have been several reports of pastors sexually molesting unsuspecting and sometimes gullible members of their churches whilst others defraud their members.Government in a statement released on Thursday instructed the Police to, as a matter of urgency, set up special desks to deal with the alarming reports of fraud and sexual misconduct perpetrated by Pastors.General Secretary of the Christian Council, Rev. Fred Degbe in an interview with Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the council will disown any pastor who is found culpable.Rev. Degbe said the actions of these pastors are crimes “against the state and the state should deal with that person according to the laws…”Government has also asked the media commission and the journalists association to agree on guidelines for religious broadcasts in a bid to end the exploitation and misdirection of those who seek help from the pastors.General Secretary of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) Gerald Ankrah told Joy News that although GIBA is worried about the trend, they have very little power to enforce some regulation. He says much will depend on the national media commission.Source: Joy News/Ghana
