Shop N Save Supermarket a community shopping center located at the Riz Junction in Adentan together with its partners, Cradle to Crayon Show, Ernest Chemist, Yomi Yoghurt and Bedita Pharmacy organized a free mass de-worming exercise for children of Madina and its surrounding communities in Accra.
The program dubbed, 'Worm free Child Project' facilitated the de-worming of over 5,000 children.
The project forms part of the Shop N Save's corporate social responsibility to give relief to communities in which it operates.
The exercise, which is second in series of events planned for the year, saw a significant number of medical practitioners from both public and private hospitals in the Greater Accra Region participating.
The event was used to create an awareness on worm infestation and other childhood diseases.
Items such as shoes, packs of Yummie noodles, toys, soft drinks, clothing and mineral water were also distributed
Mrs Margaret Titus-Glover, the Human Resource Manager, Shop N Save, said the motivation for the de-worming exercise stems from the supermarket's concern for the wellbeing of children.
She said the project affords the supermarket the opportunityto prevent worm infestation among the children and to help improve their health.
She noted that Shop N Save will continue to invest in similar projects.
She reiterated that children in the community could be easily exposed to worm infections due the dusty nature of their living environment.
She announced that a similar program will be organised at Chorkor in the Ablekuma Submetro, and will target children between 2 and 15 years.
