Gender advocate Angela Dwamena Aboagye has said the nature of violence against women in Ghana is becoming more and more brutal.

The disclosure by the Executive Director of Ark Foundation follows a shocking story of how five men defiled and attempted to kill a 14-year-old girl at Nkawkaw in the Eastern region.

The victim's assailants squeezed her neck after the act until she became unconscious and dumped her in a stream. The girl, a school dropout, however, survived but has been left with life-threatening diseases.

Joy News' Ohemeng Tawiah reports that the police have arrested the first suspect a 25-year-old cobbler, Yaw Preko and an ex-convict and a driver's mate, Mohammed Adamu in connection with the case.

A hunt has been launched for three other accomplices whose names have only been given as Awudu, Junior and Safo who are on the run.

Both Adamu and Preko who spoke to Nhyira News few days after they were remanded in police custody narrated their plan to kill the victim and dump her body in the stream.

Meanwhile, police in Nkawkaw are holding two of the perpetrators on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, defilement and attempted murder.

Nkawkaw Divisional Commander, Chief Supt James Sarfo Peprah told Joy News they will not relent until they find the three.

Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Monday,  Mrs Dwamena Aboagye who has condemned the act, called for more preventive education. 

She described the incident as "unspeakable and despicable" bemoaning the kind of violence against women lately.

"The violence against women is getting more brutal, not only in Ghana but across the world. The objectification of women's bodies is very real and getting worse," she observed. 

Mrs Dwamena Aboagye said it's time to put into place the preventive mechanisms and information on resources where people like the unfortunate victims can go to seek help. 

She remarked that sadly, the places to seek relief are no longer in use adding "People don't even know where to go when these things happen to them apart from the police.
