The Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board has issued a stern warning to politicians who intend to fund their 2012 general elections activities with proceeds from narcotics trade to stay away.
According to Mr Akrasi Sarpong, his outfit is picking interesting leads about the use of drugs proceeds ahead of the elections.
Mr. Sarpong told Joy News in an exclusive interview that those involved can never escape under his watch.
“We are following on very interesting trends, and I think it is at the level of gathering and analysis [stage].”
The man who said he was often referred to as “Crazy Sarpong” due to his ruthless actions against narcotics smugglers stressed: “Interesting because we are getting to an election year and we will see.
“The warning is this; if any politician dares us and uses narcotics money for politics that person will be sorry. Whether you are an NDC or NPP or CPP or whatever, you will be sorry."
He said there was evidence of politicians using cocaine proceeds to fund elections in the country in the past and that it will not happen again under his leadership.
